IRENEO DUD VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTER è il primo progetto realizzato da SUDIN. Una scuola professionale nell'area di Bahrgel, la prima nel suo genere nel sud del Sudan, paese che sta uscendo a fatica da oltre 40 anni di guerra civile, la più lunga che il continente africano abbia mai conosciuto nel XX secolo. La scuola, costruita in perfetta integrazione con il territorio e con la popolazione locale, prevede un piano di studi triennale con tre indirizzi: edilizia, agraria e meccanica. A pieno regime, si autofinanzierà all'80% con la vendita di servizi, di manufatti edili e prodotti agricoli da essa realizzati, dando vita a una microimprenditorialità locale.
CHI ERA IRENEO DUD? La scuola di Barghel è intitolata a Ireneo Wien Dud, il primo vescovo del Sud Sudan. Nato nel 1912 a Mbili in Sudan e battezzato nel 1923, Ireneo Dud dopo molti anni in seminario, nel 1944 fu ordinato prete e resse per molti anni la Chiesa Comboniana di Wau, non lontano da Bahrgel. Parlava fluentemente inglese, italiano e arabo ma anche le lingue locali Dinka, Jur e Bviri. Quando nel 1955 fu creato il Vicariato di Rumbek Ireneo Dud fu nominato vescovo del nella cattedrale di Wau. Morì il 24 aprile del 1988.

The IRENEO DUD VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTER is the first project carried out by SUDIN. This vocational school –located in the area of Bahrgel– is the first of its kind in South Sudan, a country that is coming out with many difficulties from more than 40 years of civil war, the longest that any African country has ever known in the 20th century. The school, which is totally in integration with the territory and the local population, provides a three-year education plan. The students can follow three courses of studies: construction, agriculture and mechanics. At full capacity, it will be self-financed to the tune of 80%, by selling the services and building and agricultural products that it manufactures, what will create a local mini entrepreneurship.
Who was Ireneo Dud? The name of the school is dedicated to Ireneo Wien Dud, the first bishop of South Sudan. He was born in 1921 in Mbili (Sudan), and baptized in 1923. After many years in the seminary, Ireneo Dud was ordained priest in 1944. He ruled the Comboni Church of Wau (a city that is not far from Bahrgel) for many years. He used to speak English, Italian and Arabic fluently, but he was able to speak Dinka, Jur and Bviri (local languages) as well. When, in 1955, the Vicariate of Rumbek was founded, Ireneo Dud was appointed Bishop of the Cathedral of Wau. He died on April 24th, 1988.
